Certain social media apps have been linked to depression in over 35 year olds. Reddit has decided to close Dubsmash and Mr Beast’s Squid Game has gone live!
A new study this week has found that certain social media apps are terrible for people over 35. TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram are the main culprits this time, as middle-aged people are more affected by the platforms in comparison to teenagers. The research indicates that over 50s in particular are suffering the most, as they feel ‘substantially more likely to feel down in comparison to their peers’. The study even found that the 5000 adults that were surveyed linked signs of depression to particular social media channels, with Snapchat the worst of them all. We need to tackle this guys!
Reddit has made a huge decision this week as they have announced that they will be shutting down Dubsmash next year! Reddit acquired the app in 2020, the TikTok like video platform, but now it will be closing its doors in February 2022. The collaboration came as Reddit thought both apps would be the perfect match, especially as ‘video is increasingly core to how people want to connect’. But the acquisition doesn’t seem to be as successful as they once thought. Goodbye Dubsmash…
