Facebook’s rebranding might not have been the best idea! This Instagram trend is not all what it is cracked up to be and Meta could be coming to a shopping centre near you…

Instagram

You may have seen a viral trend making the rounds on Instagram recently, but it may have gotten out of hand! Millions of users have been sharing images of their pets on Instagram Stories, with the idea that trees will be planted for every post shared. But it seems that this will be very unlikely, as the platform that shared it has posted that the trend got out of hand. Plant A Tree Co announced: “We immediately realized the post would grow too big and that we didn’t have the resources to plant that many trees, so we deleted it 10 minutes later.” It seems like one of the only good trends to hit millions of users on social media can’t actually be achieved!

Facebook

Facebook, or should we say Meta, could soon be hitting the high street! Reports this week suggest that Meta is planning on opening retail stores, where they will sell digital tools including their VR and AR devices. As the social media giant is expanding into different markets, it seems they are wanting to go a little old school. Meta wants to offer more tangible products, and leaked internal documents have hinted at Facebook stores heading our way, selling headsets, Portal devices and AR glasses. What do you think – could we soon be shopping for Facebook products in-store?

And that’s not the only news regarding Meta this week! It probably won’t come as a shock to many, but Mark Zuckerberg’s genius idea to completely rebrand the company has not worked out in their favour! A new report has suggested that the rebrand of Facebook has had the opposite effect that was intended, with a significant drop of public trust following its announcement. Many people thought that Meta was introduced as a distraction to the whistleblowing crisis that Facebook was dealing with at the time, so it seems pretty fair that the public no longer trust the giant, with their trust score hitting an all time low of 5.8%. Don’t know how they are coming back from this one!
